Causes of a Low-Grade Fever

Teething: Understanding the Symptoms

When babies start teething, they may exhibit a variety of symptoms that can be confused with a common cold or other infections. One such symptom is a low-grade fever. The emergence of teeth through the gums triggers an inflammatory response in the body. However, medical professionals also suggest that babies may experience low-grade fevers during this period because they are gradually losing the immunity passed on by their mothers and developing their own.

Psychological Stress and its Impact on Body Temperature

There is ongoing debate surrounding the connection between psychological stress and its effects on body temperature. However, certain studies suggest that acute stress exposure can indeed influence body temperature. Research indicates that when individuals are exposed to acute stress, it triggers the activation of the hypothalamic-medullary-sympathetic (HMS) axis, resulting in an elevation in body temperature, known as hyperthermia.

Furthermore, evidence suggests that individuals facing chronic or repeated stressful situations may experience a persistent low-grade fever over an extended period. These findings indicate that psychological stress can have a prolonged impact on body temperature regulation.
