Treatment: Structural Implants
When it comes to treating vocal cord issues, one effective method is through the use of structural implants. The main objective of this treatment is to reposition the vocal cord back to the center of the larynx. There are three different procedures that can be used to install these implants: thyroplasty, medialization laryngoplasty, or laryngeal framework surgery. Structural implants are generally recommended for individuals who are unlikely to regain vocal cord movement through therapy alone. Although the implants are intended to be permanent, there are instances where patients may require a second surgery to readjust or reposition them.
Treatment: Vocal Cord Repositioning
Vocal cord repositioning is a treatment option aimed at improving speech and breathing in individuals with vocal cord paralysis. During this procedure, a surgeon shifts a section of tissue from the outside of the patient’s larynx towards the interior. By doing so, the paralyzed vocal cord is moved closer to the center of the larynx, enabling the other vocal cord to vibrate properly against the paralyzed cord. In some cases, the surgeon may choose to reshape the vocal cord instead of repositioning the tissue.
