Understanding Epididymal Cysts
Epididymal cysts are commonly found in pairs and can be present on both sides of the scrotum. These cysts are easily visible when the skin is illuminated and can be felt separately from the testis. Typically, they are located along the upper part of the membrane. While smaller cysts do not cause any symptoms, larger cysts may occasionally result in noticeable inflammation. However, it is important to note that even the largest cysts rarely reach the same size as the testicles themselves.
Treatment Options for Epididymal Cysts
When it comes to the treatment of epididymal cysts, the approach largely depends on the size and symptoms experienced by the patient. In most cases, these cysts are small and do not cause any issues, so they are typically left untreated. However, if the cyst grows larger or starts causing discomfort, medical intervention may be necessary.
One of the treatment options is the removal of the cyst or draining it within the testicles. This approach is usually recommended if there are multiple cysts present or if the cyst is large enough to cause significant discomfort. The procedure is performed under general anesthesia to ensure the patient’s comfort.
During the surgery, the physician will make an incision in the affected testis and remove the cyst. The incision is then closed using absorbable stitches that naturally dissolve over time. Fortunately, the recovery period is relatively short, and most patients tolerate the surgery well.
