Lung Infections
Infections in the lungs, whether caused by viruses or bacteria, can lead to either a wet or dry cough. The type of cough experienced by an individual depends on the specific infectious agent and the duration of the illness. An example of such an infection is pertussis, commonly known as whooping cough. While some individuals with whooping cough may exhibit the distinctive whooping sound and produce thick mucus, others, particularly adults and teenagers, may only experience a dry and persistent cough as the sole symptom.
Lung Cancer
Recognizing the signs of lung cancer can be challenging as it often remains asymptomatic in the early stages. However, as the disease progresses, certain symptoms may become apparent. Weight loss, persistent pain, and a chronic cough, which can be either productive or non-productive, are commonly observed among diagnosed patients. It is important to note that individuals experiencing a persistent cough, especially if it is accompanied by the presence of blood, should seek medical evaluation and attention.
