Which Animals are Susceptible to Chronic Wasting Disease?
Chronic wasting disease primarily affects four species within the deer family: moose, elk, white-tailed deer, and mule deer. These animals are naturally prone to the disease. However, it is worth noting that certain subspecies of red deer and Sika deer in Korea have also been infected with chronic wasting disease, likely due to exposure to infected elk.
Can livestock be affected by the disease?
Is it possible for domestic livestock to contract the disease? So far, there have been no reported cases of transmission from infected animals to livestock. Ongoing investigations are being conducted to delve deeper into this matter and provide conclusive evidence of the resistance of livestock to natural infection.
