A Sharp Rise in Hepatitis C Cases
The United States is experiencing a significant surge in hepatitis C cases, as reported by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). In the past decade, new cases have skyrocketed, reaching a staggering four times the number seen previously. Notably, adults aged between 20 and 39 are particularly affected, with the highest rates of new infections. Shockingly, a substantial proportion of those affected remain unaware of their chronic hepatitis C status, leading researchers to estimate that between 2.7 and 3.9 million individuals across the country are living with this potentially life-threatening condition.
Signs and Symptoms of Acute Hepatitis C
Recognizing the signs and symptoms of acute hepatitis C can be challenging as they are often nonexistent. However, in some cases, individuals may experience certain indicators such as nausea, malaise, and pain in the right upper abdomen. Additionally, the condition may progress to cause jaundice, characterized by a yellowing of the skin, and dark yellow urine. It is important to note that these symptoms are not exclusive to acute hepatitis C and can be difficult to diagnose.
