Risk Factors
Paraphimosis is more commonly seen in uncircumcised young boys and elderly men. In elderly men, poorly managed diabetes can lead to inflammation in the foreskin, making it difficult to retract. Additionally, having a catheter inserted without properly pulling the foreskin over the head of the penis can also increase the risk of paraphimosis.
Diagnosis
Paraphimosis can be diagnosed by a medical professional through a visual or physical examination of the genital area. The most common sign is a tight band of foreskin that is stuck behind the head of the penis. However, in certain instances, swelling can make it difficult to identify the condition. To determine the underlying cause and recommend appropriate treatment for any infections, the doctor may rely on additional tests and background information.
