Paraphimosis Symptoms and Treatment

Treatment Options for Paraphimosis

When it comes to treating paraphimosis, there are several options available. One simple and non-invasive approach is applying a saline swab with pressure to the tip of the penis or using ice to reduce swelling. These methods can make it easier to pull the foreskin over the tip of the penis.

If these initial measures do not provide relief, a doctor may consider a puncture technique. This procedure involves using local anesthesia or sedation and using a needle to puncture different areas of the foreskin. By doing so, the swelling is reduced, and any built-up fluid is released, allowing the foreskin to return to its normal position.

In some cases, doctors may opt to inject an enzyme known as hyaluronidase into the foreskin. This enzyme helps to reduce swelling effectively.

In more severe cases, a small slit or incision may be necessary to further alleviate the swelling. Although this is a last resort, it can be an effective solution.

If all other measures fail or if paraphimosis recurs, the doctor may recommend circumcision as a more permanent solution.

Preventative Measures

Ensuring good hygiene practices is crucial for boys and men in order to avoid infections that may result in swelling. While circumcision can be an effective method to completely prevent paraphimosis, it is important to note that an improperly performed operation can actually lead to this condition. Therefore, it is crucial to seek out a skilled healthcare professional for such procedures.
