Limiting Social Media for Improved Well-being
A recent study conducted by the University of Pennsylvania has revealed a significant correlation between social media use, decreased well-being, and feelings of isolation. According to the findings, individuals often engage in social comparisons with the individuals they follow online, leading them to perceive their own lives as less interesting or successful.
However, the study does not propose completely abandoning social media platforms. Instead, researchers suggest implementing limitations on regular usage, which can have a positive impact on self-image and serve as a catalyst for seeking meaningful connections in the real world.
Oversleeping Increases the Risk of Loneliness
A study conducted by Cigna revealed that maintaining an optimal sleep duration can significantly impact one’s ability to form and maintain friendships. According to the study, individuals who consistently get the right amount of sleep tend to exhibit higher levels of sociability and friendliness, making it easier for them to connect with others and find companionship.
In contrast, people who oversleep are more prone to isolating themselves from social interactions, leading to feelings of being left out or shy. This isolation can result in a higher risk of experiencing loneliness.
Health experts strongly recommend that adults aim for a sleep duration of seven to eight hours per night to ensure they are getting sufficient, quality rest while avoiding the negative consequences of oversleeping.
