Signs and Symptoms of Hives

Rashes: A Temporary Visitor

When it comes to acute urticaria, rashes tend to make a brief appearance before vanishing within a span of 24 to 48 hours. As one hive heals, new ones may emerge elsewhere on the body. This cycle typically continues for a few days to a couple of weeks. However, if the condition persists beyond this timeframe, it could indicate chronic urticaria and underlying health concerns.

Lip, Mouth, and Skin Swelling

Angioedema is a condition that often accompanies hives, causing inflammation in the skin. This inflammation leads to swelling and a sensation of heat in the affected areas. Approximately 40% of individuals who experience hives also develop angioedema, which can affect the mucous membranes of their lips, mouths, eyelids, and other parts of their bodies.

Unlike hives, angioedema tends to be painful rather than itchy. The swelling caused by this condition typically lasts for a period of two to three days.
