Formation of Grouped Welts
Initially, hives typically manifest as distinct rashes or welts. However, as time progresses, these individual welts have a tendency to migrate and coalesce, resulting in the formation of extensive patches of inflamed and itchy skin. These conjoined patches are commonly referred to as plaques. Due to the widespread nature of the itching or burning sensation, plaques can be exceedingly discomforting.
Understanding Fever and Its Connection to Hives
While hives themselves do not directly cause fever, the presence of fever can be a significant indicator of certain types of urticaria. When a person experiences fever in conjunction with other common signs of hives, it can suggest the presence of specific underlying conditions that require additional medical attention. Autoimmune diseases, lymphoma, and urticarial vasculitis are all potential causes of hives accompanied by fever, necessitating more comprehensive care.
