Symptoms, Diagnosis, and Treatment of Catarrh

Causes of Catarrh

While the exact cause of catarrh remains unknown, several factors can contribute to its development. These factors include allergies, nasal polyps, and rhinitis. However, it’s important to note that these conditions don’t directly cause catarrh symptoms. Instead, catarrh is often triggered by an individual’s sensitivity to mucus in the back of their nose and throat, which is typically a result of an immune system response.

Symptoms of Catarrh

Catarrh can present with a range of symptoms that can vary from person to person. The most frequently observed symptoms include persistent nasal congestion, constant throat clearing, a runny nose, headaches, a dulled sense of taste or smell, crackling sensations in the ears, and a persistent feeling of something stuck in the throat. It is worth noting that these symptoms can also significantly disrupt sleep, leading to feelings of fatigue and exhaustion.
