Symptoms of Allergies and Allergic Reactions

Angioedema: Causes and Symptoms

Angioedema, also known as swollen tongue, lips, and face, refers to the swelling that occurs underneath the skin. This condition predominantly affects various body parts such as the lips, tongue, face, hands, feet, and genitals. While most cases of angioedema are not dangerous, there are rare instances where it can pose a life-threatening risk by affecting breathing. Allergic reactions to specific medications, foods, and drinks are common triggers for angioedema.

Contact Dermatitis: Understanding the Symptoms and Triggers

Contact dermatitis is a common skin condition characterized by various uncomfortable symptoms, including redness, dryness, flakiness, blistering, and itchiness. These symptoms typically emerge within a day or two after exposure to certain allergens. The affected area may develop a rash that spreads and causes significant discomfort.

This condition is often triggered by contact with irritants such as soap, sunlight, metals found in jewelry, poisonous plants, and, surprisingly, even water. Additionally, individuals who work with specific chemicals on a regular basis are at a higher risk of developing these symptoms. Although most cases of contact dermatitis are not life-threatening, it is important to note that in rare instances, they can lead to severe reactions, such as shortness of breath and anaphylaxis.
