Understanding Hot Flashes and Night Sweats
Hot flashes and night sweats are common symptoms experienced by women with low estrogen levels. These episodes of sudden body warmth can occur spontaneously or develop gradually over a few minutes. Hot flashes often involve sweating, primarily in the upper body, and can cause flushing of the skin in the upper body and head. Some women may also experience tingling sensations, heart palpitations, and feelings of anxiety. It is not uncommon for women to have hot flashes multiple times a day.
Night sweats, on the other hand, are hot flashes that specifically occur during the evening. These episodes can also affect the head and upper body, leading to damp hair, pillow covers, sheets, and sleepwear. The disruption of sleep caused by night sweats can result in fatigue and feelings of exhaustion.
