Subsequently, a bone marrow aspiration is performed, which involves extracting a small sample of marrow using a hollow needle and suction. In adults, the marrow is usually taken from the hip or sternum, while in children, the tibia is the preferred site. By analyzing the obtained sample, medical professionals gain valuable insights into the presence of immature blood cells and their developmental stages.
