Things Men Over 40 Should Know About Their Health

Erectile Dysfunction: Prevalence and Factors

Erectile dysfunction, commonly known as ED, is a condition that affects a significant number of men, particularly those over a certain age. According to the findings of the Massachusetts Male Aging Study, approximately 40% of men experience ED by the time they reach the age of 40. Shockingly, this percentage escalates to a staggering 70% among individuals who have reached the age of 70. Although advancing age is the primary determining factor, it is important to note that other factors such as poor physical and emotional health also contribute to the development of ED.

Hormonal Changes

As men age, they experience a gradual decline in testosterone levels. This decline typically begins around the age of 30 and continues to decrease by approximately 1% per year. However, the effects of this drop in testosterone may not become noticeable until a man reaches his 40s. Low testosterone levels can manifest in various ways, including emotional changes, an increase in body fat, a decrease in muscle mass, and alterations in sleeping patterns.
