Things Men Over 40 Should Know About Their Health

Higher Risk of Developing Diabetes

According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), approximately 14.3 million individuals aged 45 to 64 are affected by type 2 diabetes. Shockingly, over 3.5 million of these cases remain undiagnosed. In contrast, there are 4.6 million total cases of diabetes among those under 45, with more than 1.5 million individuals undiagnosed. However, adopting a healthy lifestyle, including maintaining a proper weight and following a nutritious diet, can significantly reduce the risk of developing this chronic condition.

Male Age and Infertility

While the age of a woman is often the primary focus when it comes to fertility, it is crucial to recognize that the age of the man also plays a significant role. Men who are over the age of 40 have a lower probability of becoming fathers. This is because they produce fewer sperm, and the quality of their sperm declines, resulting in reduced motility. Consequently, couples may take a longer time to conceive, regardless of the woman’s age. Furthermore, if the man is older than 45, the risk of miscarriage increases.
