Types of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology

What is MRI?

MRI, which stands for Magnetic Resonance Imaging, is a medical imaging technique that utilizes powerful magnets and radio waves to generate highly detailed images of the body. It is a versatile imaging method that can capture various body parts, such as the abdomen, back, head, neck, and brain. In certain cases, a contrast dye may be administered to enhance the clarity of the images produced. Unlike other radiology imaging techniques, MRI scans typically require a longer duration, ranging from 30 minutes to several hours.

What is Magnetic Resonance Angiography (MRA)?

Magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) is a non-invasive imaging technique that uses magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to visualize the blood vessels in the body. Unlike traditional angiography, which utilizes X-rays, MRA does not require any invasive procedures. During an MRA, a radiologist may administer a contrast dye through the veins to enhance the clarity of the images. However, it is important to note that MRA scans can be time-consuming, often lasting no less than an hour.
