Understand the Symptoms of Myelodysplastic Syndrome

Dyspnoea in Myelodysplastic Syndrome

One common symptom experienced by individuals with myelodysplastic syndrome is dyspnoea, which is characterized by shortness of breath. This condition tends to occur, particularly after engaging in physical activity. The underlying cause of dyspnoea in myelodysplastic syndrome is attributed to the dysfunction of the bone marrow and the production of abnormal cells.

Due to the malfunctioning bone marrow and the presence of abnormal cells, the optimal distribution and utilization of oxygen in the body are disrupted. Consequently, individuals with myelodysplastic syndrome may encounter difficulties in breathing when they exert themselves.

Bone Pain and Hematological Disorders

One common symptom experienced by individuals with certain types of Myelodysplastic Syndromes (MDS), particularly those over the age of 55, is bone pain. This pain can vary in intensity, from mild to severe, and may occur sporadically or persistently. Unfortunately, many people mistakenly attribute these minor aches and pains to the normal discomforts associated with aging, without realizing that they may actually be symptoms of a hematological disorder.
