What is Eisenmenger Syndrome?

Eisenmenger Syndrome Treatment: Medication

Eisenmenger syndrome is a condition that currently has no cure. However, medication is the main form of treatment for managing the symptoms and preventing complications. Various types of medications can be utilized to control heart rhythm, improve iron levels, thin the blood, and dilate the blood vessels. These medications can significantly alleviate symptoms and enhance overall well-being.

Additionally, individuals with Eisenmenger syndrome may be required to take antibiotics prior to dental or medical procedures. This precautionary measure helps prevent potential infections and further complications.

Eisenmenger Syndrome Treatment: Phlebotomy

Phlebotomy is a treatment option for individuals with Eisenmenger syndrome who are experiencing symptoms like visual disturbances, headaches, and difficulty concentrating due to a high red blood cell count. During this procedure, a machine is used to remove a portion of the patient’s blood, which helps to reduce the red blood cell count. To compensate for the blood loss, the patient will often receive intravenous (IV) fluids.
