It is worth highlighting that individuals who smoke and have emphysema are prone to experiencing complications at an accelerated rate compared to non-smokers with the condition. Therefore, smoking cessation is strongly recommended for those diagnosed with emphysema in order to potentially slow down the progression of the disease and minimize associated complications.
