What is Exploding Head Syndrome?

Causes: Seizures

One of the potential causes of exploding head syndrome is minor seizures that result in a short period of abnormal brain activity in the frontal lobe. It is important to note that these seizures are not the type that lead to convulsions or loss of function, so there is typically no need for concern unless other severe symptoms are present. Another possible cause of EHS could be abnormalities in the communication between the inner ear and the brain.

Causes: Elevated Stress Levels

Although no definitive link has been established, there appears to be a connection between exploding head syndrome (EHS) and heightened levels of anxiety and stress. Additionally, inadequate sleep, which can contribute to increased stress and anxiety, is another potential factor contributing to EHS. More specifically, individuals with this condition may be affected by a deficiency in delta sleep, a crucial stage of the sleep cycle that promotes deep rest and rejuvenation.
