10 Causes of Hip Pain

2. Tendinitis

Tendinitis is inflammation of the tendon. You can experience tendinitis anywhere in your body. However, your knees, elbows, shoulders, and hips are more susceptible to this disorder. If not treated early, an inflamed tendon could lead to a rupture. This must be dealt with surgically. Tendinitis can affect anyone. However, long distance runners, ballet dancers, gymnasts, and older people have an increased risk of tendinitis. Groin and anterior hip pain that increases with intensity during physical activity may indicate tendinitis. You might hear a popping sound when you stretch or when your hip is extended or flexed. At times, what is thought to be hip tendinitis is pain that originates in the knee and is referred to the hip.

3. Bursitis

Bursae are small sacks that are filled with fluid. They serve to cushion tendons, muscles, and bones near your joints, including in the elbow, shoulder, knee, and hip. Bursitis is where these small sacks become inflamed. Two major bursae can become inflamed in your hip, leading to pain. The first one is close to the greater trochanter, which sits on the bony point of the hip. When this becomes inflamed, you might feel lateral hip pain. The second one is the iliopsoas bursa, which sits inside your hip. If this bursa becomes inflamed, you will feel pain on the interior hip or the groin.
