12 Home Remedies for a Toothache

2. Apply Garlic Paste

Garlic contains a beneficial agent known as Allicin. The compound has antibacterial and antimicrobial properties that limit the growth of toothache-causing bacteria. Allicin is only available for a short time after crushing or grinding garlic. Therefore, the best way to use it as a toothache remedy is to chew it or crush it into a paste. You can apply the paste to the affected tooth using a cotton swab.

3. Treat with Salt Water

Salt mixed in warm water is another anti-inflammatory and antibacterial remedy for sore throats and toothaches. You can add a teaspoon of salt to a glass of water. Swish it around the affected area for 30 seconds and spit it out. Repeat it several times to kill microbes and relieve pain. You can also floss the teeth around the affected area gently to remove bits of food.
