Nausea and Vomiting: Common Symptoms of Bacterial Meningitis
Bacterial meningitis, characterized by confusion, fever, and neck stiffness, often presents additional symptoms such as nausea and vomiting. The intense fevers associated with the condition can trigger an unsettled stomach, resulting in persistent vomiting. Furthermore, medical experts have observed that bacterial meningitis can advance to meningococcal septicemia, a bloodstream infection that causes damage to the blood vessel walls. In such cases, nausea and vomiting are among the most prevalent symptoms experienced by patients.
Sensitivity to Bright Lights
Experiencing a splitting headache is not the only consequence of bacterial meningitis. Many individuals also develop a sensitivity to bright lights, which is known as photophobia. Even after receiving treatment for the infection, this sensitivity can persist for years. While the degree of sensitivity varies among individuals, for some, even minimal exposure to light can trigger intense pain. It is important to note that meningitis-related photophobia is often mistaken for a migraine or another type of headache disorder due to their similar symptoms.
