Heartburn that Doesn’t Ease
If you have gastritis, your stomach is not able to digest food. This causes increased production of hydrochloric acid in the stomach. The acid causes a burning sensation in the upper abdomen or heartburn. You can take an antacid to relieve the pain for a short while, but the pain comes back after the effects of the antacid wear off. As long as you keep eating, the heartburn will not ease, thanks to indigestion.
Diarrhea
Gastritis affects the stomach lining, making it less effective in digesting food. In mild cases, the stomach will still break down food, but it takes longer and does not do it as effectively. If gastritis progresses, the stomach is unable to digest food, and this affects the entire gut. When that happens, one may end up with diarrhea. Diarrhea is not a common symptom of gastritis. If you have diarrhea and have experienced other symptoms above, then your gastritis is turning severe and needs immediate attention.
