10 Symptoms of Liver Damage

6. Discolored Urine

We’ve seen how bile buildup from a damaged liver can cause discoloration in the skin and eyes. But these areas are just the most commonly noticed. In reality, the bile builds up almost everywhere in the body. People with liver damage will often even notice it in their urine. Bile buildup typically manifests in a very dark yellow or even brown discoloration in one’s urine. Of course, food and drink can cause urine to occasionally change color. But if someone’s urinary output is discolored for more than a day or two then it might be a sign of liver damage.

7. Changes in Color or Consistency in Stool

Bile can change the color of feces just as easily as it can urine. This is commonly seen as stool turning a dull pale color. Unfortunately, people often find that liver damage impacts their bowel movements in a variety of unpleasant ways. One of the more common issues is black and tarry substances mixed in with the stool. This is typically the result of blood entering into the feces. But liver damage can even cause constipation.
