15 Cholesterol Lowering Foods

13. Oats: Soluble Fibers

Oats contain a compound called beta-glucan, which prevents the absorption of bad cholesterol in the gut. Oatmeal has considerable amounts of soluble fiber, which also blocks the reabsorption of LDL in the small intestines. Taking oatmeal for breakfast can lower cholesterol levels in six weeks. You can serve oatmeal with bananas and walnuts to improve the taste.

14. Orange Juice

Orange juice sold commercially is fortified with compounds known as phytosterols. Phytosterols are compounds that are found in a plant’s cell membrane. They are structurally similar to cholesterol and compete with LDL to prevent its absorption in the body. Phytosterols can lower LDL levels by between 10 and 14%. However, some orange juices may contain sugar and other unhealthy additives. It is advisable to talk to your doctor before taking orange juice to reduce cholesterol.
