Night Sweats and HIV: Causes and Symptoms
Night sweats, a common symptom associated with HIV, can affect individuals at any stage of the infection. While they can manifest as part of the initial flu-like symptoms during the early acute stage, they can also arise as the condition progresses. In advanced stages of the disease, night sweats can become more intense and may be accompanied by a fever.
Muscle Aches and Joint Pain
Individuals with HIV are more prone to muscle aches and joint pain. A study was conducted to compare the prevalence of pain among older and younger individuals with HIV to those without HIV. Participants were asked to provide self-reported information regarding their current pain. The results revealed that older individuals living with HIV are more likely to experience pain. Among those who reported experiencing pain in the past month, 50 percent sought medical attention, and approximately 14 percent missed work due to the pain. Furthermore, the study found that individuals living with HIV who experience pain, regardless of age, also tend to display more symptoms of depression, experience greater impairment, and have a lower quality of life.
