Kidney Function and the Long-Term Effects of Lithium Orotate
When it comes to taking lithium orotate for an extended period, one potential concern is its impact on kidney function. Previous studies have shown that this medication can affect glomerular filtration rates, which determine the efficiency of waste filtration and fluid removal in the kidneys. However, it’s important to note that these studies utilized significantly higher doses of lithium orotate than what is typically prescribed. Therefore, the effects on kidney function may be dose-dependent and not necessarily applicable to regular usage.
Cancer Cells
There is some research suggesting that dietary orotic acid, such as lithium orotate, might potentially stimulate the growth of cancer cells. However, it is important to note that this study was conducted on rats and had certain limitations. The growth of cancer cells was observed only in rats that were pre-selected to develop cancer during the study. Furthermore, the rats that did develop cancer were administered high doses of the substance. Therefore, individuals with a history of cancer or those who are at risk of developing cancer should consult their doctor before considering the use of lithium orotate.
