Understanding the Coombs Test for Diagnosing Rh Compatibility

The Coombs test is a commonly used method by doctors to diagnose Rh compatibility. By analyzing the results of this test, doctors can determine whether the condition exists or not. During the test, a blood sample is taken from the patient. The doctor then examines the sample to identify any antibodies that may be attached to the surface of the red blood cells. Additionally, the doctor evaluates the bilirubin levels in the infant’s blood, as higher-than-normal levels can indicate a potential risk for Rh incompatibility. Furthermore, the doctor looks for any signs of destruction of the infant’s red blood cells, as this can serve as a symptom of Rh incompatibility.
