What is POEMS Syndrome?

Polyneuropathy

Polyneuropathy is a common symptom experienced by individuals diagnosed with POEMS syndrome. This condition involves damage to the peripheral nervous system, which is responsible for transmitting sensory and motor information between the brain, spinal cord, and the rest of the body. The effects of this nerve damage can lead to abnormal sensations and impaired movement. Typically, polyneuropathy initially manifests as numbness, tingling, and weakness in the legs. If left untreated, these symptoms can progress and spread to the arms and feet.

Understanding Organomegaly in POEMS Syndrome

Organomegaly is a condition characterized by the enlargement of internal organs. When it comes to POEMS syndrome, the liver and spleen are the organs most commonly affected by this condition. Additionally, the disorder can also cause swelling of the lymph nodes. The presence of organomegaly often gives rise to a range of symptoms such as abdominal pain, nausea, and fatigue.
